Ghosts A Foot

 A reader writes: “This was taken on Halloween at the Guildhall Ghost Hunt Night, the first one I’ve ever been to. My friend took the photo looking out from the old prison cell shower block. I was amazed. We are going to another haunt night on Friday, and I’m going to take some myself and maybe take a video recorder, too.” What do you think of the images? Do they show a blue-jean clad boy with glasses or a ghost from beyond the grave?

 “Two names sprang instantly to mind when I saw the image,” said Lucy Worsley, Chief Curator at Historic Royal Palaces. “Catherine Howard, our celebrated ghost Queen and fifth wife of Henry VIII, and Sybil Penn, a royal nurse who is believed to be the ghostly spinner. Both are traditionally seen as The Grey Lady.” Built in 1525, Hampton Court Palace has harbored kings, queens, and many other members of English royalty. Henry VIII’s third wife, Jane Seymor, died at Hampton Court while giving birth to the couple’s only son. Catherine Howard was imprisoned at the palace before being executed for adultery. Penn died of smallpox at Hampton Court.

 No list of creepy church ghost sightings caught on camera would be complete without this famous photo of The White Lady of Worstead Church. The photo was captured in 1975, by Peter Berthelot while visiting Worstead Church in Norfolk, England. The woman in the yellow dress is Peter’s wife, Diane and neither of the two noticed the ghostly figure sitting behind Diane until a friend pointed it out whilst thumbing through the photos some months later. The following year the couple returned to Worstead Church where they showed the photo to Reverend Pettit, the church vicar. The Reverend immediately recognized the apparition as The White Lady. He explained to the couple that she was a kind, healing soul and that she was a resident of the church who had been seen in the area for more than 100 years.

This photo was taken by a Mr Bootman while visiting a church in the village on Eastry, England. Bootman claims that when he took the photo the only other person present in the church was the cleaning lady. When the image was first developed it was thought that it showed the ghost of a vicar who had once resided over the church. Could it be possible? The figure certainly appears to be praying. His head is bowed, hands are clasped and he has a solemn look on his face. What do you think? Could the figure seen in this photo actually be the ghost of a deceased vicar or could it be someone or something else entirely?
